Multi-factor authentication (MFA) adds a second layer of security to your Monarch account. Once it’s turned on, signing in requires your password plus a code from an authentication app on your phone, so your account stays protected even if someone else gets your password. You can set up MFA from the web.
Note: If you sign in with Google or Apple, you’ll need to create a Monarch password in your Security settings before you can turn on MFA.
Turning on multi-factor authentication
- On the web, go to Settings > Security.
- In the Multi-Factor Authentication section, select Enable MFA.
- In the popup select Set up using an app.
- Save your recovery codes by downloading, printing, or copying them. You’ll need these to sign in if you can’t get a code from your authentication app. Select Next.
- Scan the QR code with your authentication app.
- Enter the code your app generates to finish setup.
Tip: Treat your recovery codes like your password. Storing them in a password manager such as 1Password, LastPass, or Keeper keeps them safe and easy to find.
Frequently Asked Questions
Which authentication app should I use?
Any authentication app works. We recommend Authy, 1Password, or LastPass Authenticator, since they back up your codes to the cloud and can restore them if you lose your phone.
What if I lose access to my authentication app?
Use one of the recovery codes you saved during setup to sign in.
Can I turn off MFA?
Yes. You can turn MFA on or off at any time from Settings > Security.
