Sometimes a financial institution sends Monarch a balance with the wrong sign, so a balance that should be positive shows as negative. This happens most often with loans. You can correct it from your account settings, so your account balances and net worth stay accurate.
A balance should only show as negative if a checking account is overdrawn or a credit card is overpaid. Loans and credit cards should show without a minus sign (-) in front of the balance.
Inverting an account balance
- Select the Accounts tab.
- Select the account with the incorrect balance.
- Select Edit > Edit account (on mobile, tap … in the top right first).
- Turn on the Invert account balance toggle and check the preview of the new balance.
- Select Save.
Note: Inverting is only available for synced accounts. For a manual account, edit the balance directly.
Fixing past balances
Inverting the balance corrects it going forward, but past balances in your history stay the same. To correct your balance history, upload your balance history.
If your institution flips the balance again later, repeat the steps above.
