Monarch includes powerful AI features to help you understand your finances more clearly, identify changes more easily, and get answers to your questions without having to dig through reports. These features work together to simplify your financial life by surfacing what matters and giving you helpful, personalized guidance when you need it.
AI in Monarch
Monarch offers three powerful AI features: an AI Assistant, AI-powered Insights, and a Weekly Recap. Each one solves a different part of financial management, whether you want guidance in how to use Monarch, help interpreting your financial picture, or an automatic summary of the week’s finances. No matter what the feature, your privacy and security are always our priority. Read more about our approach to AI here.
AI Assistant
The AI Assistant is designed to help you understand your finances, explain changes, and navigate Monarch’s features through simple, natural language questions. You can access the AI Assistant anywhere in Monarch by clicking the orange sparkle icon in the left-hand sidebar or anywhere you see it within the app.
You can ask about spending patterns, cash flow, changes in net worth, or more, and the Assistant uses your actual financial data to provide clear, personalized answers. It can also help you understand how to use Monarch itself (for example, how to create a report or adjust a budget.
Because finances are deeply personal, the Assistant becomes even more accurate when you choose to provide optional household context in your Member settings. Details like household size, dependents, or income allow the Assistant to interpret your situation more precisely while maintaining the same high level of privacy and data protection. All household fields are optional and used solely to improve the relevance of answers.
The Assistant is developed with guidance from Monarch’s in-house financial experts, including CFPs and other professionals who help ensure that responses are aligned with real-world financial best practices. While the Assistant can offer helpful explanations and context, responses should not be considered a substitute for personalized financial advice.

AI-powered Insights
You’ll also see AI-powered Insights throughout Monarch, marked by a sparkle icon on important financial surfaces such as the Dashboard and Accounts page. These insights are designed to help you quickly understand what’s happening with your finances without having to analyze the underlying data yourself.
When you click a sparkle icon, Monarch automatically sends the appropriate context—such as your date range, filters, and accounts—to our AI system to help surface concise explanations of what changed, why it happened, and which factors matter most. Depending on the view, insights may highlight shifts in cash flow, net worth movement, or more.
Insights are meant to reduce the mental load of financial review. Instead of piecing together information manually, you can tap a sparkle to see the most relevant takeaways from the data already on your screen.
Weekly Recap
Weekly Recap provides a short summary of your finances each week. It brings together major changes across your spending, savings, income, and net worth so you can quickly understand what happened and why. The recap highlights total spending and any significant drivers, cash flow trends, subscription or recurring charge changes, and week-over-week shifts in net worth. When available, it may also include high-level information about investment movement.
You can customize the placement of this widget (and whether it appears at all) by clicking “Customize” in the upper right corner of the dashboard.
Frequently Asked Questions
What if I receive an incorrect response?
AI can occasionally produce incomplete or inaccurate information. If something seems off, you can use the thumbs-up or thumbs-down feedback buttons at the bottom of the chat or insight to let us know. Your feedback helps improve accuracy over time. You can also rephrase your question or ask a follow-up for clarification. As always, AI should not replace advice from a financial professional who knows the full details of your situation.
Why is the AI Assistant asking for my household details?
We use optional household context details, such as dependents or income, to provide more accurate guidance, smarter insights, and better long-term planning. These details enable our AI features to tailor financial insights to your specific circumstances, while maintaining strict privacy protections. You can add or edit this information at any time in Settings> Members.

Can I opt out of using AI in Monarch?
Some AI features are integral to how Monarch works and can’t be opted out of, such as AI-based transaction categorization. Others—like the assistant—are completely optional, and choosing not to use them won’t affect your Monarch experience. Additionally, if you prefer not to use those AI features, you can opt out of having them show in Settings > Preferences (if you don't see this toggle yet, check back soon—we're in the process of adding it!). You can also remove the Weekly Recap widget from the dashboard by clicking Customize in the upper-right corner.
We’ll continue to invest in using AI to improve accuracy, personalization, and planning tools over time. As we introduce new AI-powered features, we’ll always continue to be transparent about how they work and which ones are optional.
