Here's everything you can edit on an account. Items marked with a * are only available under certain conditions as noted.
- Logo/icon — upload your own image or choose from our options
- Name — the account's display name in Monarch
- Display balance* — available on manual accounts. Synced accounts pull their balance from your institution
- Type — whether the account is an Asset or a Liability
- Subtype — the specific kind of account, such as checking, savings, brokerage, mortgage, or credit card
- Notes — free-text notes for your own reference (web only, rolling out on mobile)
- Owner* — which household member the account belongs to (only available for multi-member households)
- Business* — associate the account with a business entity (only available for Plus tier members with business entities)
- Invert balance* — flips the sign on a synced account (i.e. from positive balance to negative balance or vice versa)
- Use available balance* — on synced accounts, show the available balance instead of the current balance

Visibility Options
- Hide account — the account stays in Monarch with all of its history and keeps syncing. It's just removed from your Accounts page. You can unhide it at any time. Read more.
- Exclude account balance — leaves the account out of net worth and account group totals
- Hide transactions — keeps the account's transactions out of your reports
-
Close account — use this when you no longer have the account, but want to keep its history. The balance is set to $0 and the account stops syncing. Your past transactions and balance history stay intact, and you can reopen the account later.
Reopening makes the account active and visible again, but it doesn’t always start syncing again. After you reopen it, refresh the account once. If it still doesn’t update, or doesn’t show up when you update your connection, add it again as a new connection. Then use the Transfer Tool to move your history into the new account. - Delete account — permanently removes the account and all of its data, including every transaction and balance record. This can't be undone. Read more.
For credit cards, loans, and other liabilities, you can also:
- Exclude account from pay down projection — leaves the account out of debt pay down projections
- Exclude account from budget contributions — leaves the account out of budgeted debt payments
All of these actions are available in the Edit account window.
Reorder accounts (web only):
You can drag and drop accounts into your preferred order on the Accounts page. You can also click "Sort" on the top of the accounts page to sort by balance.
